Season 20 Lineup with some brief thoughts:

Jan 8 (South Seattle), 9 (Tacoma: DJ) & 10 (Madrona)*Pop Concert* – by which I mean not straight ahead jazz. Gabe Dixon – such an incredible pianist, composer and vocalist – you just need him in your life! Paul McCartney asked him to go on tour and he said no! In addition to doing amazing solo shows, Gabe is currently the keyboardist for Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Jan 22 (Bainbridge: Smart), 23 (Tacoma: Eun)*Three time Grammy nominated Kate McGarry is the perfect mix of jazz and folk. Joining her as usual on guitar is her equally incredible spouse Keith Ganz (also Grammy nominated!) on guitar. Together they weave magic.

Jan 29 (Alki)You’ll notice that Jane Monheit will be here twice this season! I knew she was going to be in the area with keyboard wizard Max Haymer for some other gigs – so glad to snag them for a single show at the new Alki venue! Jane was runner-up for the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocal Competition. Max is known for his many years on keys for Arturo Sandoval (2015-2025). Love this regularly performing tight musical duo!

Feb 26 (South Seattle), 27 (Bainbridge: Brown) & 28 (Sequim)Karrin Allyson is a 5-time Grammy nominated singer-pianist who regularly performs at Jazz Alley when in the Emerald City. We are so fortunate she also includes JazzVox in her bookings. Larry Koonse is a first call guitarist who has worked extensively with not only Karrin but Sinne Eeg, Luciana Souza and Tierney Sutton.

Mar 19 (Bainbridge: Veterane), 20 (Auburn)OK you can say it… “Awwwwww”. John Proulx was JazzVox artist/concert #1 way back in January 2008 in Nich’s little condo in Auburn. Now his ridiculously talented daughter (and freshman at USC) Maya Proulx is tearing up the scene. Laying down the law on the bass is local great Greg Feingold on bass. Let’s go!

Apr 23 (Bainbridge: Veterane), 24 ( Tacoma: DJ) & 25 (Camano)You guessed it – another Grammy nominated vocalist – Kenny Washington! He blends Jazz, Blues and R&B and you can hear the influence of his many years playing sax in his singing and scatting. Kenny chose Josh Nelson to join him this time – always delighted when he’s in the lineup!

May 14 (Bainbridge: Bray), 15 (Madrona) & 16 (Camano)Get ready for shenanigans! Jane Monheit once upon a time was a student of Peter Eldridge and I’ve always dreamed of reuniting them as a duo for JazzVox – this seemed like a perfect year to do that! You can thank or blame me later – going to be great!

Jun 4 (Bainbridge: Hanna), 5 (South Seattle) & 6 (Mazama) Claire Martin, OBE (Order of the British Empire) always brings extra class to our little jazz vocal series. Eight-time British Award winner, this global superstar has a unique smoky, husky and bluesy voice unlike anyone else. On the 88’s she has the extremely dextrous Jeremy Siskind. If he can think it, he can play it and he has such an inventive mind. Let the mayhem ensue.

Jul 23 (South Seattle) & 24 (Gig Harbor)
Let’s see… Ann Hampton Callaway has Sixteen MAC Awards, is a Tony nominee, Mabel Mercer and Johnny Mercer Songwriting Award winner and Women Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee. Yet we all think of her ear worm “The Nanny” theme song. Whether you’re a Callaway virgin or concubine (her words), you’ll have a memorable time with this epic performer.

Sep 10 (Bainbridge: Hanna), 11 (Madrona) & 12 (Tacoma: DJ)Blues, Ballads and Bop… and Swing – Kansas City’s Deborah Brown commands them all. After years reigning in Europe, she’s intriguingly underrated in the US. But not to JazzVox where we are continually bowled over. Deborah has Portland-based George Colligan with her again. 2015 DownBeat Critics Poll winner – his formidable talents are a great match for Deborah.

Oct 15 (Bainbridge: Veterane) & 16 (Madrona) & 17 (Camano)OK… as intimate as JazzVox usually is, this will sound like five people on stage considering both Denmark based Kristin Korb and Darmon Meader (New York Voices) are hyphenates (singer-bassist and singer-saxophonist). My brain can’t quite wrap around how talented these two, but we aren’t stopping there – we’re adding in spectacular Portland-based pianist Randy Porter. It’s going to be glorious!

Oct 29 (Everett) & 30 (Tacoma: DJ) & 31 (Edmonds)*Pop Concert*. As a choir teacher, Nich loves harmonies and Faultlines provides them in unique and magical ways. Their original songs are so catchy and moving. Many of you fell in love with them at the 2023 Hosts and Regulars concerts – back by popular demand!

Nov 12 (Bainbridge: Smart) & 13 (Tacoma: Kexel) & 14 (Alki)And anchoring the 20th season of JazzVox is the queen of purple, Australia’s vocal jazz gem: Michelle Nicolle! Winner of three ARIA awards as well as National Jazz, Mo and Australian Jazz Bell awards, her unique whistle tone and vocal timbre set her apart. On keys is the incomparable Jeremy Siskind. Winner of the Nottingham International Jazz Piano Competition, Jeremy (as part of his Housewarming Project) performed in 150 house concerts in 25 states – he’s our kind of people.
